Restaurant Group has been an advocate of social impact, an extension of their public policy neighbors on Capitol Hill.

Nestled in the heart of the District of Columbia (DC), SouthEast Restaurant Group, LLC (SERG), inspired by its namesake, located in the southeastern quadrant of Washington, DC. 

​

Southeast (SE) is in a renowned area of DC, with a rich history and vibrant culture bursting with eclectic and diverse communities. Over the last decade, DC and the SE region have undergone a significant shift in community dynamics, cuisine, and culture.

PILLAR OF SOCIAL IMPACT

SERG and its creative team deliver extraordinary culinary experiences that push creativity forward through their holistic approach to modern hospitality, innovative cuisine, rich culture, and positive social impact in the community.

SERG's philanthropic initiatives include local grassroots outreach with the community-at-large, from highlighting local artists, eradicating food deserts, education philanthropy to political advocacy (incumbents and their constituents) within the DC political landscape. A signature event, 1865 Experience, a dinner event that celebrates Juneteenth with innovative dining of historic Black History reverence thus, positive social impact is a pillar of SERG.  Today, SERG is proud to be a pivotal part of the hospitality industry of Washington, DC.

Our goal is to continually elevate the hospitality industry through innovative stylistic cuisine while celebrating the cultural richness on the pulse of modern hospitality in food/beverage and dining/catering. 

Melvin Hines Jr

Member/CFO, The Chappelle Group LLC Hines is a Finance Executive, CFO of the Chappelle Group, Restaurateur, and Founder of SERG.  As a serial entrepreneur, his passion for enterprise, food/beverage, and cultural/social impact are the robust pillars of SERG.  

Melvin Hines is a powerful force in the present and future of the modern hospitality movement. A native of Washington, DC, an HBCU graduate of Morehouse College, and holds an MBA from George Washington University.

Charese John

Chief Creative Officer, SERG

John curates extraordinary catering events under the SERG moniker, leading teams from 20 to 200. As a former Catering Executive for Safeway Corporation and Dean and DeLuca, food innovation and creative dining experiences are John's innate affinities. 

Charese J creates one-of-a-kind, customized catering experiences of effortless opulence that make her the "go-to" around DC's catering and events scene. From intimate celebrations, Capitol Hill extravaganzas, historical annual social impact events to celebrity soirees. 

 

Charese John is a Culinary Visionary.

​A native of the DC/Maryland area and an HBCU graduate of Clark Atlanta University.
